Celebrating the International Day of the African Child 2024 in Wau: A Commitment to Inclusive Education

On June 27, 2024, the vibrant community of Wau came together to celebrate the International Day of the African Child at Hai Salaam Primary School. The event, organized by YGlobal South Sudan in collaboration with The People with Disability Society of Wau and Hai Salaam Primary School, was a powerful testament to our collective commitment to inclusive education and the rights of all children, particularly those with disabilities.

Under the theme “Education for All Children in Africa: THE TIME IS NOW,” the day commenced with spirited cultural dances performed by students from Hai Salaam and Hai Kosti Girls Primary Schools. These performances symbolized unity and resilience, setting a joyful and inspiring tone for the event. The audience was also treated to poignant drama presentations highlighting the challenges and triumphs of children with disabilities, shedding light on their daily struggles and victories.

A key highlight of the celebration was the distribution of scholastic materials donated by YGlobal South Sudan. Essential items such as books, pens, pencils, and charts were given to students from Hai Salaam and Hai Kosti Girls Primary Schools. Additionally, playing materials including balls, pumps, and skipping ropes were provided to promote physical health and enrich recreational activities.

The event saw the participation of distinguished guests, local leaders, educators, Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), School Management Committees (SMCs), and representatives from Hai Kosti Girls Primary School. Their presence underscored the community’s unwavering commitment to advocating for inclusive education and the welfare of all children.

Speeches delivered by key participants emphasized the importance of inclusive education in fostering diversity, equity, and opportunities for all children across Africa. The speakers called for continued collaborative efforts to ensure every child, regardless of background or ability, receives quality education and support.
